Message from the Mayor and City Council

Waukegan has seen some exciting changes since the adoption of our Downtown and Lakefront Redevelopment Master Plan. The redevelopment area has already benefited from more than $50 million of public investment and substantial private investment. The City itself has invested significantly, more than $40 million, in the redevelopment area, proving our commitment to implementing this Plan. We have approved numerous public/private partnerships, significant improvements have been made to buildings in the downtown and lakefront area, new buildings have been constructed and new business have opened or are in the process of opening. Finally, more than 100 acres of lakefront property are experiencing predevelopment activity. We are starting to see the fruits of our labors!

All the improvements Waukegan is seeing are the result of the hard work, dedication and passion of our community to realize the dream of a revitalized downtown and lakefront. Our Master Plan extends well into the future and we are committed to continuing implementation of Waukegan’s downtown and lakefront redevelopment for years to come.
